*RACE 1 @ 1.16pm ANNE ADAMS MEMORIAL CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m) – Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 11. DESERT ROSE (Luke Pepper/TBA; 55kg & barrier 2) -Competitive & open stoush over the mile on an improving surface to get us underway. Like this consistent 4YO Iffraaj mare at the value, and deep into the current prep. Has continued to settle back & work home late in similar races, but can settle closer here from a softer draw. Is bred to get over further, but only needs a reasonably solid tempo up front and a clear crack at them from the 400m to finish over the top
*DANGERS: 1. *Ponte Pietra; 3. **Global Sensation; 4. **Thunder Knob; 8. *Cassia Lane
Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: DESERT ROSE Each Way & Box Exacta: 3,4,11
*RACE 2 @ 1.51pm THE TATTS HOTEL INVERELL MAIDEN HCP (1050m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 1. JOYZEL (Luke Pepper/TBA; 58kg & barrier 14) -Back to the sprint trip for the maidens, and again plenty of chances headed by this prtogressive 3YO filly from the same country stable as the previous selection. Hit the line 1st-up in a stronger country maiden before failing to run on in an even deeper race when soft in betting & ridden way too close in the worst part of the track. Ready to peak now, especially getting on to firmer footing
*DANGERS: 4. *King Fletch; 5. *Reacquaint; 6. **Tandem; 8. *Adviser; 9. *Casritz
Likely Tempo: Good
My BET PLAN: JOYZEL to WIn & TANDEM Each Way
*RACE 3 @ 2.26pm IMPERIAL HOTEL INVERELL MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) – Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 9. LOVELIER (Stirling Osland/Matthew Palmer; 57kg & barrier 12) -Another tough and testing moderate sprint for the maidens. Deep into the current prep, this honest 3YO filly can finally break through. Has found the line okay in her last three at Tamworth, sitting both on-speed and around midfield, and this is a significant drop in quality. Has placed six times from 11 starts, and as long as she can tuck in somewhere from the wide draw, has enough closing power to finish over this lot
*DANGERS: 2. *Endseig; 7. *Beach Princess; 8. *Dawn Lover; 11. *Press Freedom
Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: LOVELIER to WIN
*RACE 4 @ 3.06pm STEWARTS GRAIN TRADING BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1200m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 1. HYLAND BAY (Wayne Oakenfull/Scott Sweedman; 63kg & barrier 9) -It doesn’t get any easier here over the same trip, although this shapes as the right 1st-up assignment for this local 4YO who resumes with winkers coming off. Was consistently in and around the money in much deeper races last prep, and I suspect he will settle back well off the fence behind a strong speed and finish hard. Handicapper hasn’t missed him with 63kg, but he has a class edge in this company, and the more the track dries out the better placed he is
*DANGERS: 2. *Deepstar; 4. *Salt And Pepper; 5. *Another Arli
Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: HYLAND BAY to WIN
*RACE 5 @ 3.46pm ROYAL HOTEL TINGHA CUP BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1400m) – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 2. EPTIWINS (Peter Sinclair/Jacob Golden a2kg; 59kg & barrier 12) -Got plenty of time for this underrated 7YO who only needs to find some cover back in the field from a wide barrier to loom as the one to beat. Won two from three earlier in winter in very weak grades; but reinforced his ability against better opposition charging over the top from midfield to land a handy CL1 on home track at Moree. Comes back 200m in trip for a slightly weaker race, and all his best form is on firmer surfaces
*DANGERS: 1. **Easier; 4. **Qukes; 9. *Staremm
Likely Tempo: Solid
My BET PLAN: EPTIWINS to WIN & Box Exacta: 1,2,4
*RACE 6 @ 4.26pm TINGHA ANTIQUES BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1050m): – Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:
TOP SELECTION: 1. AWESOME SPIRIT (John Shelton/Ben Looker; 60kg & barrier 2) -Very tricky race to finish, but this North Coast-based 3YO finds a suitable race 2nd-up, and has much more to offer than his poor strike rate from 14 starts suggests. Was swamped in heavy ground resuming at Grafton, but normally improves significantly next start, and this is the thinnest race he’s tackled in a while. Draws to get an economical run right on the speed, and returning to firmer ground is a further plus. Was scratched from Lismore on Friday to be saved for this
*DANGERS: 3. *Indian Thunder; 6. *Zorra; 8. *Sacred Thoughts; 11. *Bonnie Joy
Likely Tempo: Good to Strong
My BET PLAN: AWESOME SPIRIT Each Way
